FRP fixed ladders provide permanent vertical access for tank tops and elevated equipment platforms. The non‑conductive construction removes the grounding requirements that metal ladders carry, making them especially suited to electrical substations. In corrosive or high‑voltage environments, these fiberglass ladders typically deliver extended service life with minimal maintenance, supporting long‑term safety where lifecycle cost consistently outweighs initial material investment.

Each fiberglass safety ladder is fabricated from pultruded side rails and round rungs, assembled with mechanical fasteners—no field welding. The rung profile includes a bonded silica grit surface, providing a slip‑resistant grip even when wet. Standard rung spacing follows OSHA 1910.23 at 280 mm (11 in) on centre, and side rails are typically 50 × 50 mm square tube for a rigid, lightweight structure. Because the entire assembly is non‑metallic, there is generally no conductive path to ground; a single industrial fixed ladder can be bolted directly to a transformer bund wall or a clarifier tank without bonding jumpers or grounding cables.

Installation is straightforward. Pre‑drilled mounting brackets accept 316 stainless steel anchor bolts, and the ladder sections come in 3‑m and 6‑m lengths that connect with internal splice joints. A two‑person crew typically sets a 6‑m ladder against a concrete tank wall in under two hours. There is no hot work, no heavy lifting equipment, and generally no repainting after installation—the resin colour is integral through the laminate. Rungs are round tube approximately Ø 30 mm with an integrally bonded grit surface, and the clear width inside rails is commonly 410 mm (16 in). Load rating typically supports 150 kg (330 lbs) per rung, uniformly distributed. Weight is approximately 5 kg/m, about 30% of an equivalent steel ladder. Resin systems include isophthalic polyester as standard, with vinyl ester available for harsh chemical exposure. Fire performance generally achieves a flame spread index ≤ 25 when tested per ASTM E‑84.

For installations exceeding 6 m in height, a safety cage system is available, fabricated from the same corrosion‑resistant FRP profiles. The cage begins at approximately 2.2–2.5 m above the base and extends to the top platform guardrail height, with horizontal hoop rings spaced every 1.2–1.5 m and vertical flat‑bar stiffeners running the full cage length. Hoop rings are typically formed from 50 × 5 mm flat bar or Ø 12 mm solid rod, with an internal diameter of 700–750 mm.
