A galvanized grating fastener—commonly referred to as a grating clamp—is specified when the environment is dry, the budget is constrained, and the fastener count runs into the thousands. The hot-dip galvanizing process deposits a zinc layer typically ranging from 55–85 µm thick that metallurgically bonds to the carbon steel substrate. This coating provides sacrificial protection for the underlying steel in standard indoor industrial settings.
Mechanically, these steel grating hardware clamps follow the same saddle design as their stainless counterparts. The saddle spans the intersection of two bearing bars, and two M8 or M10 bolts draw it down, transferring the clamping load through the clip body. Installation torque typically ranges from 15–25 N·m, and the connection is fully demountable for panel removal during maintenance turnarounds. The saddle thickness typically ranges from 2.5–3.0 mm, providing a bearing surface that resists deformation under standard installation torque. For indoor process buildings, vehicle assembly areas, and covered loading docks, the galvanized clip secures the grating without the premium attached to stainless alloys.
These fasteners are generally suitable for ISO 12944 corrosion classes C1–C2. Each clamp is supplied as a complete set with saddle, two bolts, flat washers, and lock washers. Packaging is labelled by batch for traceability. For outdoor or chemically exposed installations, stainless or FRP alternatives may provide extended service intervals.
